About Cotymog Shed
The inspiration for the the name of my studio came from Dominick Tyler, author, photographer and lover of wildness, in his book UNCOMMON GROUND. In there he refers to those stray bits of wool which catch on hedges and fences as cotwmogs or cotymogs. Irresistible, if you love words, eh?
As the pencil catches on the rough surfaces of the handmade paper, it produces lines which the artist allows to go where they will. In so doing, it appears that that friction draws down, from within the memory bank, sensations and images which might otherwise remain abandoned.
CotymogShed studio sits in the wilderness garden of the artist's and her writer husband's house in a suburban northern town, where they have lived for over 20 years. It is here that, often in chaos, these images find their form.
