About Cotymog Shed
The inspiration for the name of Mary’s studio came from Dominick Tyler, author, photographer and lover of wildness, in his book UNCOMMON GROUND.
In there he refers to those stray bits of sheep's wool, which catch on hedges and fences, as cotwmogs or COTYMOGS.
Irresistible, if you love words, eh?
As the pencil catches on the rough surfaces of the handmade paper, it produces lines which the artist allows to go where they will.
It is as though sensations, and imagery, from within the memory bank, are snagged and made manifest.
CotymogShed studio sits in the wilderness garden of the artist's home in a suburban northern town, where her husband Tim and she have lived for over 20 years.
It is here that, often in chaos, these images find their form.
It is here that images and words collide and collude!
This blog is to be written always with you in mind.
It will contain observations about Art, its production, its value in our lives, how it is regarded, and how we hope that that may universally change for the better.
Art in ALL its forms, that is, including books and poetry, music and theatre, as well as the work made in this place.
You will be introduced to other artists here, and I hope to interview my lovely hand-crafting suppliers too.
So if you have any suggestions, for a topic for discussion, or for a miscellaneous page, where we can post anything to do with art-making, please let us know in the comments box below:
