Hello! I’m Mary f Harrison, artist incumbent of Cotymog Shed Studio, and editor of this blog.

In the late 50’s , my family emigrated by ship to Tasmania, where we stayed for 5/6 years before moving to Canberra.

Wherever we went we ‘logged’ our movements, and filled notebooks with drawings and paintings, writings and photos.

Since then I’ve never managed to keep a journal,  so you may find huge gaps in this!

But drawing is different and it is something I have always loved to do for myself. 70 years on and I’m still doing it, and loving it. Taking up a pencil or biro or stick of charcoal, or just a stick on the beach, letting the line go where it will, is a most exciting thing to do. If you haven’t tried it since childhood, you really should. Anyway, more of that later!

After 4 years of art school in Sydney I got on a Greek passenger ship, one of the last to ply the route through Panama, and sailed home to the UK.  I had been accepted to study Medical Art in Manchester, drawing all sorts of human anatomy and surgical procedures, and there I learned English watercolour techniques.

I still use these in my work and have a sustainable source of handmade paints, which makes me very happy. My work builds on the way described in my About Cotymog Shed pages. All my paintings are on handmade Khadi rag and hemp papers.
They are available for sale here, and anything you might like me to do to commission will be conducted in collaboration with you.

I’m looking forward to your presence here and your views on Art, books, gardens, wildness, and so much more.
So please don’t be shy…
